TWS President’s Letter

Greetings, Fellow Wolfeans:

Happy 2026! Thank you, one and all, for being a member of The Thomas Wolfe Society and sharing our common interest in the life and works of Thomas Wolfe.

I hope you will join us this May 29-30 in Asheville across from the “Old Kentucky Home,”  at the Renaissance Marriott for our 47th Annual Conference. Thank you, Anne Zahlan for your recommended theme, “Thomas Wolfe and the Natural World.” Join us as “Thomas Wolfe asserts the centrality of the natural world in his vision of human society.” On Saturday, join us for breakfast at the “OKH.” Our Saturday night banquet will be held at the Renaissance. Registration is $50 per person and our banquet is $100.

Reserve your room today. Early hotel reservations and membership renewals are recommended at this time. A membership renewal form is available if you would like to complete and mail to David Strange. You will also receive this email and attachments by US Mail. Conference registration information and program will be emailed and mailed this March.

On a separate note, please register with the Thomas Wolfe Memorial or the Wilma Dykeman Legacy to attend the “Short Stories of Thomas Wolfe” Zoom meetings. Wolfe short stories are discussed in a very informative and entertaining format.  You won’t want to miss out! Thanks go to Kayla Seay with the Thomas Wolfe Memorial and Jim Stokely with the Wilma Dykeman Legacy for organizing these short story studies. Please support the Thomas Wolfe Memorial and the Wilma Dykeman Legacy both of which support the TWS. Request your invitation to join these Zoom meetings with an email to wolfe@wilmadykemanlegacy.org.

A big thank you to Deb Borland for her work of love with The Thomas Wolfe Society Facebook page. Over 2,300 individuals follow the page for her daily Wolfe-related posts with the latest Wolfe news and other related authors and info. Thank you, Deb!

Some members have already paid their 2026 dues. We thank you. Members have continued to receive our publications, emails, and The Thomas Wolfe Review.  If you would like benefits to continue, please submit your 2026 renewal soon and help us be good stewards of your funds. There are 64 TWS Life Members. Please consider becoming a Life Member: https://thomaswolfe.org/about-tws/membership/.

I have been requested by our board to remind all members of our tax status. We are a IRS 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization which prohibits political involvement. We are a diverse Society and welcome all members regardless of viewpoints. We have a great literary society and I am proud to be a member of such a well educated group of Wolfeans.

Join us, reconnect with old friends, and make new friends. I hope to see you in Asheville!

Sincerely yours,

Ray Walker, President
